Answers to Popular Questions

What is a Career coach?
A career coach is a partner in your job search as well as your career. We can provide guidance and expertise when it comes to job search strategies, resume writing, networking, interview strategies, and even salary negotiations. Career coaches also help people who are employed become more effective and successful in their current work environment. Regardless of what you’re objectives are, career coaching is action-oriented and sessions are designed to move you forward so you can reach your goals. The philosophy with coaching is that the person has the answers within them and the coach is there to draw out those answers so the person can take action. Furthermore, weekly check in’s and goal setting helps to keep a person on track and accountable for what they’re trying to achieve.

I already know what I want to do with my life so how could a career coach possibly help me?

There are numerous ways! As mentioned above, the purpose of a career coach isn’t limited to helping people figure out their career path. We can also help you navigate and better manage your career. For example, have you ever felt stuck in a rut at your job or like your career was going nowhere? A career coach can help you initiate difficult raise and promotion discussions with your boss and give you the talking points you need to sound secure. We’re someone to practice with who can also give you feedback so that you’re better prepared and ready for when the “real” talk happens. Additionally, a large time at work is spent working and interacting with other people. This can be hard if there are people on your team you simply don’t get along with. A career coach can even give tips to manage those situations as well plus give you feedback on how to interact with tough personalities.

What disciplines do you work with and why?
We specialize in helping people who work in the interactive marketing industry. That’s primarily because Carin has experience working at interactive advertising agencies and also has spent most of her career staffing companies in these disciplines. Therefore, she has a deep understanding of the roles and responsibilities of someone who has worked in the interactive space, as well as some of the potential career challenges someone might be facing in this industry.

Do you work with people outside of the marketing and advertising space?

Yes. We are open to working with people who are not from these disciplines, and we can talk and see if it makes sense to work together, but our primary focus and expertise is in helping those from marketing and advertising backgrounds.

There are a lot of career coaches out there. What is your specific approach and how are you different?
Carin has over fifteen years experience in recruiting, human resources and in executive search. Having worked on both sides of the business, she truly has insider information to share to help people get ahead in their careers. Above all, she believes that people have the answers within them and a good career coach will ask the right questions to help draw that information out. But there are also times when being direct and offering candid feedback and insights is necessary. Through a combination of listening and gleaning important information, Carin is able to provide the targeted feedback that gives her clients an edge in their job search or career.

What makes you qualified to coach?
Over the span of her career on both sides of the staffing equation, Carin has worked with thousands of candidates. She has been a recruiting manager at some of the top interactive agencies and consulting firms in the world and has operated her own successful search firm business since 2003. She is also a certified life purpose and career coach.

How do we work together?
First, we set up a complimentary appointment to discuss your current situation. We will assess where you are at in your job search or career situation and identify the key things that you want to accomplish. When we decide there is a mutual fit, then we discuss the various packages offered or create a custom package for you. Next, we’ll set up our appointments and how we’re going to work together.

Every corporate environment is different, so how can someone who hasn’t experienced my work environment help me?
We provide guidance based on coaching hundreds of individuals and having worked in numerous work settings ourselves. While every corporate environment is different, a lot of the issues that arise are the same. The advice we give isn’t a one-fits-all approach. We listen to what you’re going through and give you the tools you need to manage tough situations at your current office and where ever you end up next.
